Blue Ivy Carter, Jay-Z and Beyonce's Daughter, Becomes Youngest Person Ever to Appear on a Billboard Chart

If you guessed that Baby Carter would grow up to be a star because of her ubiquitous, famous parents, Jay-Z and Beyonce, you were probably right. If you anticipated her first song not being released until she was in her tweens, a la Willow Smith, you were dead wrong: Try within days of her birth.

Blue Ivy Carter, who was brought into the world Saturday (Jan. 7), is now the youngest person ever credited with gracing a Billboard chart, as Jay-Z's newly-recorded studio cut "Glory" - officially billed as "featuring B.I.C.," an abbreviation of Blue Ivy Carter - begins on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs at No. 74. (For historical purposes, this week's Billboard charts are dated Jan. 21).

Blue Ivy Carter/B.I.C. also benefits from the era in which she born. Technology today allows an advantage in that Jay-Z was able to record and release "Glory" less than 48 after her birth. After almost 72 years of numbers, positions, peaks, lows, gains and debuts - the first national Billboard chart was published the week of July 27, 1940 - Blue Ivy has already broken a record.

"Glory" arrives as the week's highest new entry on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs with 1.7 million audience impressions on 54 radio stations, according to Nielsen BDS.

In a stroke of chart kismet, the song marks Jay-Z's 107th career entry on the survey, mirroring the Jan. 7 birth date - in other words (or, um, numbers), 1/07 - of Blue Ivy. source

CSIRO researchers have paid a backhanded compliment to US pop singer and actress Beyonce - naming a rare horse fly after her in honour of its bootylicious golden behind.

The Scaptia (Plinthina) beyonceae fly, which is found in far north Queensland, sports a spectacular gold patch on its abdomen which CSIRO insect expert Bryan Lessard says makes it the "all-time diva of flies".

"It was the unique dense golden hairs on the fly’s abdomen that led me to name this fly in honour of the performer Beyonce as well as giving me the chance to demonstrate the fun side of taxonomy – the naming of species," Mr Lessard said in a statement released on the CSIRO blog.

The rare Scaptia plinthina horse fly was collected in 1981 from the Atherton Tablelands, west of Cairns, the year the former Destiny's Child singer was born.

"Most Australian Scaptia species have been described, however these five new species of a sub-group [plinthina] have been housed in Australian collections since the group was last studied in the 1960s," Mr Lessard said.

"Although often considered a pest, many species of horse fly are extremely important pollinators of many plants.

"Horse flies act like hummingbirds during the day, drinking nectar from their favourite varieties of grevillea, tea trees and eucalypts."

Mr Lessard's paper has been published in the Australian Journal of Entomology.

CSIRO says it has contacted Beyonce for a response to the "honour", but is yet to receive a response.

This is not the first time a creepy crawly has been named after a pop star.

The list includes a trapdoor spider named after Canadian singer-songwriter Neil Young; a whirligig beetle named in honour of rock 'n' roll pioneer Roy Orbison; and various extinct trilobites named after members of punk band The Ramones.

Beyonce's Hospital Room -- Like a 5-Star Hotel

Lenox Hill Hospital constructed a suite for VIPs which looks like a Four Seasons penthouse ... and the room was christened Saturday when Beyonce gave birth.

TMZ has obtained photos of the room where Blue Ivy came into this world, and it's baller. There are 4 flat screen TV's, state of the art electronics, a kitchenette, nice art, mahogany walls and plush furnishings. And take a look at the bed where Jay Z got some shut eye!

Sources connected with the hospital tell TMZ ... the suite was not constructed specifically for Beyonce, but it was always intended that Beyonce would be the first patient to use it.

Beyonceis proving she’s pretty “Crazy in Love” with the first family. First, she danced up a storm last year in a music video for first lady Michelle Obama’s “Let’s Move!” initiative. Now, the “Best Thing I Never Had” singer is selling clothes she designed to raise money for President Obama’s re-election campaign.

Beyonce is one of more than 20 designers creating everything from tanktops to clutches for Obama supporters to splurge on.

Some of the other famous faces who are part of the “Runway to Win” project, which New York magazine reports was organized by Vogue editor and Obama supporter Anna Wintour, include: Russell Simmons, Sean “Diddy” Combs, Tory Burch, Vera Wang, and Diane von Fursternberg.

Many of the same set of celebs participated in a similar fundraising effort in 2008 called “Runway to Change.” Proceeds from sales of the high-fashion items go to the Obama Victory Fund.

Beyonce, along with mom Tina Knowles designed a t-shirt emblazoned with phrases the commander-in-chief made famous, such as “Yes we can,” and, “I’m in!” The crew neck sells for $45 and, along with the other fashions, is only available for pre-order right now. The pro-Obama wardrobe items go on sale online Feb. 7.
